Evanston, IL native/Chicago Cubs die-hard Eddie Vedder and Pearl Jam returned to the Windy City on Thursday to begin a two-night run as part of their ongoing Dark Matter world tour.
Highlights of the performance, which featured support from Glen Hansard, included a moving “Daughter” tagged with a snippet of Pink Floyd‘s “Another Brick in the Wall, Pt. 2”; the tour debut of “Down”, which Vedder dedicated to both Phil Donahue and Howard Zinn; the first live “U” since 2018; a Vedder solo acoustic rendition of Tom Petty‘s “I Won’t Back Down”; a duet by Vedder and a lucky fan brought up from the crowd on “Won’t Tell”; a show-closing Neil Young “Rockin’ in the Free World” cover featuring help from Hansard, and more.
Pearl Jam is set to return to Wrigley for another go-around on Saturday, August 31st before heading to New York for a two-night run at Madison Square Garden next week (9/3, 9/4).
