Code Orange guitarist Reba Meyers has defended her decision to join embattled shock rocker Marilyn Manson‘s touring band.
Weeks after making her debut onstage with Manson as part of his live comeback, Meyers took to Instagram to share a statement defending her decision to link up with the controversial artist, who has been the target of numerous psychological and sexual abuse allegations from a string of women over the past few years (which we reported on here, here, here and here – he has steadfastly denied them all though).
“I’m proud to represent the growth, confidence, forgiveness, humanity, and change”
“I’m proud to represent the growth, confidence, forgiveness, humanity, and change that comes with this, and to be up there with such talented motherfuckers,” the axe-woman wrote on Instagram, praising Manson as having returned in “awesome renewed form”.
“Everyone is aiming for growth and not stagnation. World needs that attitude right now,” she continued, adding: “Thanks to all the new peeps that have been showing love and support my way.”
The comments were predictably divisive, triggering a mixed reaction online that ranged from support to total outrage.
One fan commented: “Growth and forgiveness after he has denied the mountain of allegations and taken no responsibility,” while another added: “Considering what he’s done I find this hard to understand”.
ICYMI Manson’s comeback follows accusations of abuse from multiple women, including actress and former girlfriend Evan Rachel Wood. Manson has been involved in multiple court battles due to resulting civil lawsuits, though many of those cases having since been either settled or dismissed.
He has not been criminally convicted.
Meanwhile, Code Orange have yet to comment on the situation.
