Beloved rapper and hypeman Fatman Scoop has tragically died at the age of 56, after suffering a medical emergency on stage during a concert in the US on Friday.
As reported by the BBC, the Grammy-winning artist, real name Isaac Freeman III, was midway through his set at Town Center Park in Connecticut when he collapsed onstage. He was reportedly stretchered off the stage, given CPR and rushed to a local hospital via ambulance.
“I am honestly lost for words…”
News of his death was later confirmed by his tour manager, who wrote on Instagram: “I am honestly lost for words… You took me all over the world and had me performing alongside you on some of the biggest and greatest stages on this planet, the things you taught me have truely made me the man I am today. Thank you so much, I love you.”
Known for his iconic 1999 hit ‘Be Faithful’ and appearances on tracks like Missy Elliott’s ‘Lose Control” and Mariah Carey’s “I Like That,” FatMan Scoop regularly toured Australia, performing at triple j’s One Night Stand in 2017, and multiple appearances at RNB Fridays Live, the most recent of which was in 2023.
FatMan Scoop will reportedly feature on A$AP Rocky’s upcoming album, Don’t Be Dumb, on a song dubbed ‘Hood Happy’.
In a collective statement posted to his official Instagram page, Scoop’s family said, “FatMan Scoop was not just a world class performer, he was a father, brother, uncle and a friend. He was the laughter in our lives, a constant source of support, unwavering strength, and courage.”
Their statement continued: “FatMan Scoop was known to the world as the undisputed voice of the club. His music made us dance and embrace life with positivity. His joy was infectious and the generosity he extended to all will be deeply missed but never forgotten. As we mourn the loss of FatMan Scoop, we also celebrate his remarkable life and the countless lives he touched. FatMan Scoop’s legacy is of love and brightness, it will reside in our hearts and memories forever.”
