Dear independent Aussie artists, here’s how you can score a huge career boost! Sydney/Eora-based artist services agency Good Intent have upped the ante on their ‘Greater Good’ independent artist initiative, upgrading this year’s prize fund with a cash grant and artist services package worth a girthy $30K.
Now in its fourth year, the philanthropic effort is offering one exceptional emerging act $4K in cold hard cash to invest in their career, as well as a comprehensive range of services from the the best music pros in the game to help turbo-boost your next music release.
Lazy Ghost – ‘Summer Is Here’
A bunch of new industry partners are jumping on board this year to throw their weight behind the initiative, including Forbes Street Studios, Jungle Merchandise, Purple Sneakers and PHILTER, while the likes of Zenith Records, Media Arts Lawyers, Billy Zammit, PLAKKIT, White Sky and Ben Mitchell.
Not stopping there, this year Good Intent will also sling extra services and guidance to all applicants who make the final shortlist.
“We’re very grateful to be in this position to connect the dots with our partners, and excited to welcome our industry panel full of people the team and I respect and look up to,” Good Intent Chief Operating Officer Rick Bridgman says in a press statement.
“The past few years we’ve discovered so many incredible artists from across the country, heard their stories and provided guidance to help develop their careers,” he continues. “The best part about this is we get to see the growth of the winners, and all applicants alike, it’s why we do what we do and we can’t wait to dive into more music in October.”
Good Intent has also named a dedicated industry panel to help decide the winning applicant in 2024, recruiting with Joe Muller (MusicNSW), Glenn Dickie (Sounds Australia), Jane Slingo (EMC / Young Strangers / VibeLab), Dan Morgan (Astral People), Emmy Mack (RedHook / triple j), Jess Wust (Cult Artists) and Nic Kelly (Hit Network) to review all the applications.
Last year, the honour went to Cavanbah/Byron Bay-based surf rock act Lazy Ghost, who said the prize has changed the trajectory of their career.
“We were incredibly honoured to have been chosen for the Greater Good Initiative in 2023,” the band said in a press statement. “This opportunity has significantly advanced our career by allowing us to make numerous industry connections and open doors to new opportunities. The financial support enabled us to record our EP with our favourite producer, Jack Nigro at Sonora Studios, a dream come true for us.”
They continued: “The support from Good Intent during our releases earlier this year has been unparalleled. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Rick and the entire team for their invaluable assistance. Their dedication and belief in our music have been instrumental in our progress, and we are deeply grateful for their ongoing support.”
