My Morning Jacket and Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats gave audiences with they needed on Friday with a Rolling Stones cover. The co-headlining Eye to Eye Tour visited Alpharetta, GA outside Atlanta on Friday, where the marquee acts came together for “You Can’t Always Get What You Want”.
My Morning Jacket had the honor of closing Friday’s show at Ameris Bank Amphitheatre, with the two acts switching off headlining duties each night of the 11-show tour. Midway through the band’s 13-song set, neo-soul singer Nathaniel Rateliff and his impressive backing band The Night Sweats joined Jim James and company onstage. As James began strumming, Andy Wild‘s saxophone introduced the unmistakable horn opening of the Let It Bleed classic. James and Rateliff switched off vocal duties for the verses, and they needed little assistance for the chorus as the amphitheater enthusiastically sang along.
Earlier in the evening, during Rateliff & The Night Sweats’ opening set, My Morning Jacket swung by for a cover of Traffic classic “Feelin’ Alright?”. Rateliff previously performed the ’60s favorite with MMJ at Red Rocks Amphitheatre last summer, sparking the musical bromance that led to this summer’s joint tour. “Feelin’ Alright?” has been a regular cover and cause for collaboration so far this tour, and on Monday in Florida, Rateliff and James added a duet cover of John Prine‘s “All The Best” to the rotation.
