The Disco Biscuits have a long and storied history with Chicago, with the trancefusion pioneers playing in 17 venues throughout the city since 1999. These sites range from now-defunct club Ontourage to Grant Park in the early days of Lollapalooza and even the Lincoln Park Zoo. Over the weekend, The Disco Biscuits added the 17th entry to their impressive Chi-town resume with the band’s two-night debut at Thalia Hall.

For this year’s trip to Chicago, The Disco Biscuits came prepared with a new song, “Country Royale”, to debut at Thursday’s run opener. “Country Royale” marks the band’s latest debut and follows their 2024 album Revolution in Motion, their first studio release in nearly a decade. The group’s newest track is an outlaw-themed story song of fast money and faster getaways that rides in on Aron Magner‘s bouncing electric piano. Jon “Barber” Gutwillig belts out the chorus “We could be free, unlock the city if you give me the key,” as apt a description of the outlaw tale as it is of the band’s artistic rebirth since coming out of the pandemic and recomitting themselves to the road and the studio.

Following the debut, bassist Marc Brownstein posted a video of The Disco Biscuits workshopping “Country Royale” at Barber’s house back in May. With lyrical references to the American West, Brownie noted, “This one’s tailor-made for a full-crowd sing along in Montana, so have your hats and cowboy boots ready for @pinecreeklodge! 🤠
