The Disco Biscuits kicked off a western leg of their Why We Dance Tour with a four-night swing through Colorado last week. Among the highlights of the four-show, three-city stretch was the debut of a new Disco Biscuits song, “Risky Business”.

After starting the run on Thursday at Washington’s in Fort Collins by dusting off “Park Ave” and “Evolve” for the first time this year, the Biscuits trudged ahead to Dillon Amphitheater where they inverted “Ring the Doorbell Twice” for the first time and delivered the first inverted “Spacebirdmatingcall” in ten years. The main event came over the weekend, when the band set up shop for a two-night run at the Mishawaka Amphitheater in Bellvue on Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday marked The Disco Biscuits’ 10th career show at The Mish, dating back to their three-set debut at the scenic venue on July 5th, 2001. “7-11” and “Home Again” appeared in both shows, though the majority of Saturday’s setlist was made up of songs that didn’t exist when the band made its Mishawaka debut 23 years ago, including the new song “Risky Business”. The song may sound familiar to diligent Disco Biscuits fans, as the composition is based on the band’s “Rock Candy” jam from April 13th, 2024 at The Tabernacle in Atlanta.

Before adding the lyrics, the band experimented with what would become the song structure by playing the instrumental portion on August 29th in Chicago. “Risky Business” carries all the hallmarks of a classic Disco Biscuits song, taking off with Aron Magner‘s propulsive phasers, powered by Allen Aucion‘s interminable four-on-the-floor beat plus Marc Brownstein‘s bedrock basslines, and Jon “Barber” Gutwillig‘s central earworm guitar riff. The lyrics paint an image of a bad-boy Barber as he hollers, “We gotta pay the rent / That’s how we do it / I see your message and I leave it on read / Oh yeah / It’s risky business if you’re here to be friends.”

Finally, The Disco Biscuits wrapped their Colorado run with one more Mishawaka show on Sunday. Rather than debuting a new original, the band put a new spin on an old classic by performing the first inverted “Mr. Don”—coinciding with the Encephalous Crime song’s 230th career performance.

The western leg of the Why We Dance Tour continues tonight, September 11th, in Salt Lake City ahead of a three-night, tour-closing stay at Pine Creek Lodge in Livingston, MT this weekend.
