Billy Strings has announced that he will be refunding all tickets sold for his Renewal festival this past weekend in Buena Vista, CO after he missed the event to be with his wife as she gave birth to their first child.
Despite Billy’s absence, Renewal forged on for two days of music in Buena Vista with Billy’s band and the various other performers booked for the festival—including Nat Smith, Molly Tuttle & Golden Highway, Jerry Douglas, Jon Stickley, Larry Keel, Mountain Grass Unit, and Full Cord—filling in. Still, the bluegrass star was quick to acknowledge that he had, indeed, missed the event he was supposed to headline.
On Sunday, he posted a message on Instagram explaining the timeline of events that led to him missing Renewal to become a dad. “I was mortified to leave the fans hanging,” Strings wrote, “and to leave the responsibility of the gig to my band and friends who stepped up and kicked ass in my absence. ( I owe you all a cold beer!) but I was so excited to get back to my wife because she needed me.” While young Strings had yet to be born at that point, Billy posted an update on social media on Monday letting fans know that his son had finally arrived after a lengthy labor.
“Regarding [Renewal],” he added on Sunday, “I WILL find a way to make it up to you.. just give me a sec to be with my family. I’ll figure out a way to make it up to you I promise! … And for those wondering .. as long as all goes well here in the next day or 2, pine knob is definitely a GO!!”
In a new post on Tuesday afternoon, the bluegrass star and the event’s promoter, Bonfire Entertainment, thanked Renewal attendees and detailed forthcoming refunds for all tickets purchased to this one-of-a-kind, Billy Strings-less edition of the Billy Strings festival.
“Dearest Renewal Family,” the post reads, “We want to extend our deepest gratitude for being a part of an extraordinary Renewal. Your overwhelming show of support, kindness, and positivity truly made this year an unforgettable experience. We are deeply moved by the spirit of our community and the legendary performances brought to you by some of our closest friends. Moments like these remind us of the power of friendship and community.”
It continues, “We recognize that this year was not what you expected, and we truly appreciate you sticking with us. On Friday, October 4th, we will begin processing refunds for all GA and VIP tickets. Please allow 5-10 business days for the funds to appear in your account. If you have any questions or need assistance, please reach out to [email protected]. We truly appreciate your understanding and patience. See you again real soon.”

Assuming that what he wrote on Sunday still holds true, Billy Strings and his band are due to play two shows at Pine Knob Music Theatre in his home state of Michigan this Friday and Saturday, October 4th and 5th. Find tickets to those shows and the rest of Billy’s upcoming tour dates here.
