As Phish fans gear up for the band’s annual New Year’s run at Madison Square Garden, CEG Presents is preparing to host an exciting pre- and after-party series. This year’s lineup promises a diverse array of performances, including the return of Medeski Martin Metzger & Cline at Sony Hall.
The supergroup of Medeski Martin Metzger & Cline—featuring John Medeski on keys, Billy Martin on drums, and both JRAD‘s Scott Metzger and Wilco‘s Nels Cline on guitar—has only graced the stage together twice before, both times after Phish’s MSG shows in 2019 and 2023. Unsurprisingly, those performances sold out Sony Hall, and fans can expect nothing less when the quartet returns for two back-to-back shows on December 29th and 30th, 2024.
First, though, the festivities kick off on December 28th with a midnight performance by New England’s Neighbor at The Cutting Room. That same evening, Hill Country Live will host two sets from Steely Dead, a band that blends the iconic sounds of Steely Dan and the Grateful Dead. Fans can catch Steely Dead at 4:00 p.m. for a pre-show jam, and again at midnight for a late-night show.

As the series continues, Brooklyn-based livetronica outfit Space Bacon will take the stage at Hill Country Live on December 29th for an after-party. Then, on New Year’s Eve, Funk Sauce, featuring DJ AF (Ari Fink of SiriusXM) and Bunny Radio’s Tad Cautious, will host a late-night dance party at Hill Country Live starting at 1:00 a.m. on January 1st, 2025.
In addition to bringing top-notch musical entertainment to venues across New York City, the Phish pre- and after-party series will also give back. For every ticket sold, $1 will be donated to Phish’s WaterWheel Foundation, a nonprofit that supports environmental preservation, social services, and music education.
