Belle Haven‘s transformation from post-hardcore sadbois to alt-rock boyband to-be-reckoned-with is complete with the arrival of their latest EP, the aptly-titled something new.
The scene stalwarts, who just wrapped up a showcase at BIGSOUND 2024, have reinvigorated their sound and returned with a fresh sense of purpose on the four-track collection, preceded by the sultry pop-punk anthem ‘fauxlove’ and now, the visceral emo belter ‘a hypothetical exit’.
belle haven – ‘a hypothetical exit’
Produced by Jack Newlyn (Between You & Me, bukowski) and mixed by James Paul Wisner (Paramore), something new unfurls a whirlwind of emotions woven into mosh-ready earworms.
“We explore love, sex, heartbreak, bad habits (and breaking them), choosing yourself, and even death,” frontman David de la Hoz explains. “It covers a lot because that’s just how life happens sometimes. Each track brings its own feeling.”
He continues: “‘fauxlove’ taps into something raw and intimate, ‘lose, regret, repeat…’ feels deeply sad, ‘thx’ has this angry energy, and ‘a hypothetical exit’ comes off a bit tongue-in-cheek. We didn’t plan to cover all these themes—it just naturally unfolded that way. In a way, we’re still figuring out what Belle Haven is, learning by doing. This EP is part of that journey.”
