According to bassist Tina Weymouth, this new wave art rock band found their name in TV Guide, adopting the term for “a head-and-shoulder shot of a person talking.” What are, Talking Heads?

In continued celebration of Stop Making Sense‘s 40th anniversary, Talking Heads appeared on Tuesday’s episode of Jeopardy! to introduce trivia questions about the band and its iconic 1984 concert film. The rare joint appearance by Weymouth, David ByrneJerry Harrison, and Chris Frantz saw the four core members of Talking Heads quiz players on the band’s history.

Topics covered included the site of Talking Heads’ first concert (New York’s CBGB, opening for Ramones), the director of Stop Making Sense (Jonathon Demme), the first song the band wrote (“Psycho Killer”), the group’s polyrhythmic collaboration with producer Brian Eno that fetched #28 on Rolling Stone‘s 500 Greatest Songs of All Time (“Once In A Lifetime”), and the bands biggest hit, which was inspired by a chant at a Parliament-Funkadelic show (“Burning Down the House”).

This appearance marked the latest in a flurry of promotional activity surrounding the anniversary of Stop Making Sense. Last year, the band’s four original members reunited for the first time in 23 years to sit for a Q&A with Spike Lee on the landmark concert film. Byrne, Frantz, Harrison, and Weymouth went on to make group appearances on several talk shows but insisted that they were not getting the band back together—a position seemingly underscored by a Billboard report that the band turned down an $80 million offer from Live Nation for a reunion tour.

In the absence of a Talking Heads reunion, A24 commissioned a Stop Making Sense cover album Everyone’s Getting Involved with tributes by Paramore, The NationalMiley CyrusBADBADNOTGOOD, and others. The film briefly returned to theaters last year and made a one-night-only appearance at IMAX theaters across the country earlier this month.
