After putting its Netflox & Chill tradition on ice for a few years, Goose resumed its series of movie and TV-themed Halloween concerts with a Stranger Things show in St. Petersburg, FL. The concert highlighting songs from the soundtrack to the hit Netflix show marked the group’s first themed Halloween concert since honoring Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me in 2021.
Taking the stage in costume, Goose transported The St. Pete Pier to Hawkins, IN and ultimately to the Upside Down with this nostalgia-fueled show. Peter Anspach shaved his mustache to portray Dustin Henderson, guitarist Rick Mitarotonda assumed the role of antagonist-turned-good guy Steve Harrington, multi-instrumentalist Jeffrey Arevalo donned a sheriff’s uniform for Jim Hopper, drummer Cotter Ellis put on a dress to play Eleven, and bassist Trevor Weekz did the least amount of work and simply put on a white tank top and jeans to become Billy Hargrove.
Goose opened the show with its debut of Stranger Things‘s synth-laden theme music which launched into a brooding jam. Alongside cuts from the TV soundtrack, Goose filled out the show with some of its creepier compositions like “Dr. Darkness”, “Yeti”, “Silver Rising”, and “Wysteria Lane”, which all appeared in the first set. Out of a “Wysteria Lane” jam, the band transitioned into its first performance of Talking Heads‘ “Psycho Killer” since November 23rd, 2016, per ElGoose.net. The song, like many other pop covers played on Thursday, appeared in Stranger Things‘ blockbuster fourth season which debuted back in the summer of 2022. Goose tacked a couple more debuts onto the first frame with ’80s anthem “Maniac” and surf instrumental “Wipe Out” separated by a “Madhuvan” which closed the frame.

Goose had more debuts in store for the second set, kicking off with “You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)”. Perhaps the most eagerly awaited cover of Thursday’s show was Kate Bush‘s “Running Up That Hill” which appeared halfway through the second set. Thanks to its prominent inclusion in Stranger Things season four, “Running Up That Hill” re-entered the charts 37 years after its release and peaked at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100. Interestingly, the show had a similar impact on Metallica‘s “Master of Puppets”, though Goose opted not to attempt the thrash metal favorite.

Weaving in and out of an “Arrow” jam and following it up with a creepy “Creatures”, Goose finished off set two with a final debut of Tears for Fears classic “Everybody Wants to Rule the World”. Returning for the encore, Goose dug into the Stranger Things theme once more before closing the show with “The Empress of Organos”.
