On Saturday the 33rd annual Farm Aid music festival and benefit was held at the Xfinity Theatre in Hartford. The full-day event that mixes music and activism was headlined by Farm Aid board members Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp, Neil Young backed by Promise Of The Real and Dave Matthews, who teamed up with his longtime musical partner Tim Reynolds. The bill was rounded out by appearances by Chris Stapleton, Sturgill Simpson, Kacey Musgraves, Margo Price, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, Lukas Nelson and Particle Kid.
During their early afternoon slot Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats welcomed out a pair of guests to help them out on a song from The Band to close out their set. As the rock and soul act was putting the finishing touches “S.O.B.” the band’s titular leader invited out Price and Lukas Nelson as they transitioned into their frequent cover “The Shape I’m In.” Yesterday’s take on the Stage Fright track featured Rateliff, Price and Nelson all singing a verse before they worked their way back into the end of “S.O.B.”
