Tony Trischka shared a holiday song, “Christmas Cheer (This Weary Year).” The track will land on the renowned banjo player’s upcoming 2021 album, Shall We Hope, due out on January 29 via Shefa Records.
“Christmas Cheer (This Weary Year)” sees contributions from Michael Daves on guitar and lead vocals, Kristin Andreasson and Stephanie Coleman on harmony vocals, Skip Ward on bass, Brittany Haas on fiddle and mandolinist Dominick Leslie. Trischka wrote the song in 2014 but felt the tune was timely and included it on Shall We Hope, a concept album based around the American Civil War.
“Though the song has a few sobering moments, I wrote it to add some levity to my upcoming project set in the Civil War,” Trischka said in a statement. “Games played, the arrival of Santa, and so forth. I wrote it five or six years ago, but the chorus seems to have a particular resonance this holiday season.”
