Much of the western music world was saddened on Thursday afternoon when news broke of the passing of acclaimed jazz pianist and composer Chick Corea, who died from cancer at age 79 earlier this week on February 9th.
A statement penned by Corea himself prior to his death read, “To my amazing musician friends who have been like family to me as long as I’ve known you: It has been a blessing and an honor learning from and playing with all of you. My mission has always been to bring the joy of creating anywhere I could, and to have done so with all the artists that I admire so dearly—this has been the richness of my life.”
Corea’s musician friends responded in kind when news of his death spread across the Internet. Artists and industry leaders alike made a point to remember the talented musician in posts shared to social media.

Chick Corea. Composer, bandleader, incredible pianist, and more. His legacy lives on through his music, those he has inspired & for us, in the moments we’ve shared on stage. God bless @ChickCorea, one of the most innovative and inspired musicians I ever had the privilege to work with. His musical art and genius were an education, not just a performance. He has now truly returned to forever. May peace be his ultimate achievement. pic.twitter.com/tXVSBQk6aV

RIP to one of my favorites keyboardists of all time, @ChickCorea. In honor of black history month… I’m sharing my favorite album by @milesdavis “Bitches Brew” that features the indelible work of Chick. So deep & psychedelic. Check it out: https://t.co/TYtAQs7Jhp
