Oteil Burbridge Trio wrapped their three-night weekend run at the Vilar Performing Arts Center in Vail, CO on Saturday, where Oteil Burbridge explored his way through the Grateful Dead and Allman Brothers Band songbooks and beyond with help from the night’s guests in Chris Pandolfi (The Infamous Stringdusters) and Joey Porter (The Motet).
Following the band’s first two nights of the weekend run which has welcomed a limited amount of fans at each performance, the band’s Saturday show opened with a grooving cover of Jaco Pastorius‘ “Ocus Pocus”, and quickly continued with an Oteil-led performance of Jerry Garcia‘s “They Love Each Other”.
From there, the band dove right into the Grateful Dead catalog with performances of “Dark Star”, “Cosmic Charlie”, “Believe It Or Not”, along with the classic three-song combination of “Help On The Way” > “Slipknot” > “Franklin’s Tower” with a “Terrapin Station” notably thrown into the mix during the transition of “Help > Slip”. The band then entered Allman Brothers Band territory with “In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed” followed by a take on Junior Parker‘s “Mystery Train” to close the set.

The band returned to close the show with a cover of The Headhunters‘ “God Made Me Funky” in tribute to the band’s late bassist Paul Jackson, who died on March 18th.
