Remembering Sharon Jones: The Dap-Kings Reflect On The ‘Soul Of A Woman’

270

Beloved soul singer Sharon Jones sadly and tragically passed away on this date in 2016. Jones’ courageous battle with the cancers that ultimately took her life was an inspiring final chapter from a woman who exuded an inspirational spirit.

Last year, Jones’ long-time label Daptone Records released the posthumous album by Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings entitled Soul Of A Woman. The Brooklyn-based record label responsible for issuing all of Jones’ albums with her incomparable backing band The Dap-Kings prepared a video series in conjunction with the release of Soul Of A Woman that featured The Dap-Kings and discussing her resilient life and career.

Jones’ band mates in The Dap-Kings – Tommy “TNT” Brenneck, Binky Griptite, Homer Steinweiss, Saundra Williams, Fernando Velez, Dave Guy, Cochemea Gastelum and Daptone co-founders Gabriel Roth (Bosco Mann) and Neal Sugarman – each gave individual interviews regarding their relationships with Sharon. The series of Soul Of A Woman interviews is followed by three additional clips titled Moments With Sharon, Dining With Sharon and Sharon’s Nicknames.
