Brooklyn Comes Alive will return this Sunday, September 26th for a full day of live music and collaboration at the sprawling Brooklyn Mirage. In addition to the never-before-seen bands and collaborations at the core of the long-running event, Brooklyn Comes Alive 2021 will feature headlining performances by a number of nationally touring acts.
The September 2021 iteration of Brooklyn Comes Alive is set to feature a full, two-set show by The Disco Biscuits in addition to a unique performance by The Motet featuring special guests Jeremy Schon (guitar, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong), Shira Elias (vocals, Turkuaz), and Eric “Benny” Bloom (trumpet, Lettuce).
The 2021 lineup will be rounded out by a crew of heavy-hitting BCA veterans including the first-ever live show by the avant-garde jazz trio of Joe Russo, John Medeski, and Dave Harrington; a full live performance and intermittent DJ sets by fast-rising NYC-native bassist/bandleader Karina Rykman; and an electro-soul dance party with a unique Break Science Live Band lineup.
While these will mark the first official Brooklyn Comes Alive performances by both The Disco Biscuits and The Motet, the members of the two beloved bands have been part of the fabric of the unique festival since its inception in 2015. The Motet keyboardist Joey Porter, for example, used Brooklyn Comes Alive 2018 to launch a Steely Dan tribute that has since become a late-night staple in New Orleans during Jazz Fest. The Disco Biscuits bassist Marc Brownstein and keyboardist Aron Magner, meanwhile, have performed at every in-person Comes Alive event—from DJ sets to the debut of [Br]eaking [Bi]scuits in 2016 to various other eye-popping collaborations through the years.

The 2020 iteration of Brooklyn Comes Alive was originally set to take place last March, making it one of the first major events forced to postpone due to COVID-19. In 2021, rather than using its initially planned two-stage, indoor setup at Avant Gardner, Brooklyn Comes Alive will move outside to occupy the entertainment complex’s outdoor space, the Brooklyn Mirage. Surrounded by towering walls lined with evergreen plants and captivating video projection, this expansive, open-air venue will allow for more space to dance while the single-stage format will ensure that fans get to catch every minute of music played throughout the day.
UPDATE 9/14/21: SiriusXM host Ari Fink has also signed on to return as the host of Brooklyn Comes Alive 2021 on September 26th at Brooklyn Mirage. The event will also require proof of full COVID-19 vaccination or a negative test within 72 hours. For more details on the Brooklyn Comes Alive vaccination/testing policy, click here.
