Check Out Oasis Playing ‘Champagne Supernova’ At Knebworth

76

A new taster of the upcoming Oasis documentary, Oasis Knebworth 1996, has arrived in the form of a previously unreleased version of ‘Champagne Supernova’.

The seven-minute clip of ‘Champagne Supernova’ features a guest appearance from guitarist John Squire of The Stone Roses. ‘Champagne Supernova’ was the first song of the band’s encore and second-to-last track played at Knebworth. They ended both shows with a cover of The Beatles’ ‘I Am the Walrus’.

Squire can be seen cutting sick on lead guitar through the song’s extended instrumental sections. Oasis looked up to the Stone Roses in their early years, with both bands coming from Manchester.

“It was almost like the Stone Roses passing the baton to Oasis,” says an observer in voice-over. But Noel Gallagher immediately rebukes the suggestion: “The baton was not passed. We took that. We took that in ’94.”

Jake Scott’s upcoming documentary, Oasis Knebworth 1996, chronicles Oasis‘ legendary two-night stand at Knebworth Park, just north of London. The film was compiled from extensive reels of concert film and behind the scenes footage, much of which has never been seen before.

Oasis Knebworth 1996 is coming to cinemas worldwide this Thursday, 23rd September (in places where cinemas are open, of course). Tickets are available here.

A live album and DVD/Blu-ray of Oasis Knebworth 1996 will be released on Friday, 19th November via Big Brother Recordings Ltd.
