lespecial, the stylistically mercurial trio hailing from CT, has released a new music video for “Repeater”. The track appeared on the band’s most recent studio album, Ancient Homies, released in December 2020 via Ropeadope Records.
In the “Repeater” video—directed and filmed by Al Harney with additional edits by Chris Beikirch—we follow a voiceless protagonist through the universal, repeating narrative of nine-to-five work life: wake up early, brush your teeth, get dressed, trudge to the office, deal with the grating personalities of your colleagues who look an awful lot like Jon Grusauskas, Rory Dolan, and Luke Bemand, the guys from lespecial. Textbook stuff.
For this guy, however, something is… off. As he moves through his routine, small details begin to inexplicably change, making him question the nature of his reality. The more attuned he becomes to the inconsistencies in his world, the more obvious they appear.
When our hero finally manages to break through the barrier and escape his simulated surroundings, he’s greeted by “other side” Rory, Luke, and Jonny—who have traded their extra-in-Office Space look for an extra-in-The Matrix look. He’s free… that is, until he wakes up again for another day—back inside the grand illusion.
In case that mind-bending journey wasn’t enough for you, the clip closes out with a Dolan drum solo segment, thematically captured in black and white. Check out the surreal new video for “Repeater” by lespecial below.

“Repeater” also serves as the namesake for lespecial’s 2021 Fall RepeaTOUR, a lengthy national run that will keep the band on the road for the remainder of the year.
On Thursday night, lespecial kicked off the tour with a livestream show from Relix Studio in New York City which aired exclusively via The Relix Channel on Twitch. The performance saw the trio work through a mix of songs from Ancient Homies and its older LPs, debut a new original song, toy with a Twitch commenter-requested “free jazz” jam, and fire up the obligatory Primus cover.
The ninety-minute Relix Studio set also featured a mashup of King Crimson‘s “21st Century Schizoid Man” and Black Sabbath‘s “Iron Man”—”21st Century Iron Man”—delivered with a subtle hint of irony.
“You said ‘prog,’” Bemand quipped to one commenter on the stream. “No, that’s jam. We did a jam thing there.”
