‘Breaking Waves: Seattle’ Podcast Examines Grunge’s History + Legacy

104

JamBase partners Osiris Media teams with Audacy for Breaking Waves, a podcast documenting music scenes and movements featuring interviews with people that were there. The first season, Breaking Waves: Seattle, launches next Tuesday, October 12.

Breaking Waves: Seattle presents an oral history split into four episodes telling the tale of the Emerald City’s grunge and alternative scenes that was the epicenter of rock for a large swath of the 1990s. The new podcast dives into the birth and roots of grunge — including the formation of such pioneering bands as Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Nirvana and Alice In Chains — and continues by tracing the rise and fall of the genre. Breaking Waves: Seattle‘s season ends with a look into the present and future in profiling artists moving the music of Seattle forward.

Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan, Soundgarden guitarist Kim Thayil and Alice In Chains guitarist Jerry Cantrell are among the musicians interviewed for Breaking Waves‘ inaugural season. Others featured in new interviews include famed DJ Marco Collins, Mom + Pop Music founder and longtime music industry exec Michael Goldstone, former Epic Records executive Debi Lipetz as well as Seattle music insiders Daniel House and Charles Cross.

“So many music scenes have their roots in radio, and the grunge scene in Seattle is no different,” explained Osiris Media CEO RJ Bee. “We’re thrilled to partner with Audacy to share the history of grunge in a way that nobody has heard it before — with insightful interviews, lots of music, and a story that shines a light on this amazing city.”

Episodes premiere exclusively on the Audacy app each Sunday. New installments can then be heard everywhere podcasts are available each Tuesday.
