UPDATE: Bob Weir & Wolf Bros Postpone 4-Night Kennedy Center Orchestral Run

[UPDATE 1/28/21]: Bob Weir & Wolf Bros have announced that their upcoming orchestral run at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., originally scheduled to take place in February (2/9, 2/10, 2/12, 2/13), has been moved to the fall out of an abundance of caution regarding the current public health situation. The four-night engagement will now take place on October 5th, 6th, 8th, and 9th, 2022.

“I’ve been working on this project and the orchestral scores of Grateful Dead music for many years. I’m excited to debut this in October when it feels safer for everyone involved,” Bobby said in a statement on the postponement.

All ticket purchasers will receive an email from the Kennedy Center with additional information. Tickets will automatically be rolled to the new dates and no action will be required. Fans who are either unable or do not wish to attend the new dates have the option to donate the value of the tickets back to the Kennedy Center, receive a gift certificate, or receive a full refund. “Be good to yourselves – and to each other,” the postponement announcement concluded. “We are all in this together. Let there be songs to fill the air. See y’all soon.”

The postponement of Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros’ special Kennedy Center run follows the last-minute cancellation of Dead & Company‘s two-weekend Playing In The Sand Mexico trip earlier this month. The four now-postponed February Wolf Bros shows in D.C. were due to mark the founding Grateful Dead member’s first live performances since Dead & Company’s tour-closing 2021 Halloween run at Hollywood Bowl.

Next up for Weir is a 2022 spring tour with the Wolf Bros set to kick off on March 9th at the famed Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, TN. For a full list of upcoming tour dates, head here.

[11/9/21]: Bob Weir will gather the Wolf Bros—and the extended Wolfpack—for a four-night orchestral run at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. on February 9th, 10th, 12th, and 13th, 2022.

The performances will feature Wolf Bros mainstays Weir, Don Was, and Jay Lane with special guest Jeff Chimenti as well as the “Wolfpack” featuring Alex Kelly (cello), Brian Switzer (trumpet), Adam Theis (trombone), Mads Tolling (violin), and Sheldon Brown (woodwinds).

The four Kennedy Center shows, part of the National Symphony Orchestra‘s NSO Pops series, will be conducted by Steven Reineke with orchestration provided by Stanford University professor Dr. Giancarlo Aquilanti, who has been working with Weir for several years to orchestrate the music of the Grateful Dead.

The “Wolfpack” has gone through several iterations since being introduced during last year’s various Wolf Bros livestreams from Bob Weir’s TRI Studios and has continued to be a staple of the group’s live performances as they have returned in 2021. While the ensemble has played with Weir and Wolf Bros before, this will be the first such collaboration to feature a conductor.

While Bob Weir & Wolf Bros have not had a show since July 24th at the William Randolph Hearst Greek Theatre in Berkeley, CA, Weir and Chimenti have been busy on the road with Dead & Company and Jay Lane has been along for the ride as a fill-in for Bill Kreutzmann at several shows.

Tickets for all four Bob Weir & Wolf Bros NSO Pops shows are now on sale via the Kennedy Center website. For more information, head here.
