triple j has announced voting will open for the 2022 instalment of the Hottest 100 next week on Tuesday, 14th December. Voting will be open to punters for just over a month, closing on Monday, 17th January at 12pm AEDT.
On Friday, 21st January, the tracks that narrowly missed making it into the main countdown will be revealed, as the station runs through the Hottest 200-101.
The big day itself is Saturday, 22nd January, when triple j will be counting down the Hottest 100 songs of the year as voted by the public, broadcast over radio, online and the triple j app from midday. Finally, closing out celebrations the next day on Sunday, 23rd January, Double J will be throwing it back by playing the Hottest 100 of 2001 – nostalgia galore.
In addition, triple j have announced they’ve partnered with crisis support and suicide prevention non-profit Lifeline. triple j is asking listeners to help those in need by making a donation, or buying this year’s Hottest 100 shirt. As the station points out, the shirt is $39, which is the same amount it costs Lifeline to answer a call from someone in crisis.
This year’s Hottest 100 was led by Glass Animals, who took out the number one spot with their Dreamland hit ‘Heat Waves’, with Spacey Jane just behind thanks to ‘Booster Seat’. Flume (with Toro Y Moi), Ball Park Music and Tame Impala filled out the rest of the top five.
