The Disco Biscuits rang in 2022 with a New Year’s Eve concert at The Fillmore Philadelphia on Friday night. The jamtronica quartet led into the New Year by telling the story of their last 16 years by presenting the “History Of The Disco Biscuits, Part II” with pro-shot video of the 30-minute performance now available on Couchtour.TV.
“History Of The Disco Biscuits, Part II” followed the initial tDB history lesson on December 31, 2002 at the Electric Factory in Philadelphia. The second installment began with the addition of drummer Allen Aucoin to the band. Aucoin won “The Atlantic City Drum Off” in Atlantic City on November 18 and 19, 2005 and was picked by fans to replace Sam Altman who left the group to attend medical school.
The second main portion of “History Of The Disco Biscuits, Part II” focused on 2009 and 2010. Bassist Marc Brownstein spoke of new music the band had written at the time and tDB performed a bit of “The Great Abyss.” While the quartet was on a high entering 2010, guitarist Jon Gutwillig hurt his wrist early in the year leading Tom Hamilton and Chris Michetti to fill in. Hamilton and Michetti contributed to “History Of The Disco Biscuits, Part II” remotely and were displayed performing on screens set up on the stage.
After a few years of sparse gigs, the Disco Biscuits teamed up for a pair of performances with Grateful Dead drummers Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart. Bisco played a bit of “I Know You Rider” as part of the story of those gigs. The tale then moved on to 2019 and their announcement “set break is over” as the band planned to embark on their most extensive tour in a longtime. Unfortunately, COVID-19 had other plans and the Disco Biscuits went into lockdown. “History Of The Disco Biscuits, Part II” ended the same way the first part did with tDB playing “Biscuits Are Coming Home.” The second and only other performance of the ode to Philadelphia since December 31, 2002 gave way to a countdown and the start of 2022.
