Dolly Parton Bows Out Of Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Consideration

While Dolly Parton was among 17 acts nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame’s Class of 2022, the esteemed musician asked to be taken out of consideration. “Even thought I am extremely flattered and grateful to be nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, I don’t feel that I have earned that right,” Parton wrote today on her social feeds. “I really do not want votes to be split because of me, so I must respectfully bow out.”

Parton was a first time nominee along with Beck, Eminem, A Tribe Called Quest, Duran Duran, Lionel Richie and Carly Simon. Others on the ballot are Fela Kuti, MC5, Rage Against The Machine, Dionne Warwick, Judas Priest, Pat Benatar, Devo, Kate Bush, Eurythmics and New York Dolls. The Class of 2022 will be announced in May. A ceremony follows this fall.

Dolly doesn’t consider herself a “rocker.” However, the honor has “inspired [her] to put out a hopefully great rock ‘n’ rock album at some point in the future, which I have always wanted to do!,” Parton added in explaining her husband, Carl Dean, “is a total rock ‘n’ roll freak” who has long been asking her to put out a rock album. “I do hope that the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame will understand and be willing to consider me again – if I’m ever worthy,” the 79-year-old musician wrote.
