Doom Flamingo Releases New Single & Announces Tour Dates

In 2018, Umphrey’s McGee bassist Ryan Stasik debuted a new project titled Doom Flamingo. Tapped as one of JamBase’s standout new bands from last year, the group also features five local Charleston, South Carolina musicians, including saxophonist Mike Quinn, keyboardist Ross Bogan, drummer Stuart White, guitarist Thomas Kenney and vocalist Kanika Moore.

It seems that the project is gaining legs of its own and looking forward to continued growth in 2019. In late December, Doom Flamingo released a brand-new single titled “Domingo’s Drive,” which perfectly captures the group’s retro, synthwave leanings. The band also plans to release a graphic novel in the next year, with a press release noting that the comic is currently in production.

Today, the band announced an upcoming collaboration with Charleston’s Fatty’s Beer Works, marking the brewery’s first-ever beer collaboration. As noted in a press release, “The new brew is a single malt, single hop India Pale Ale brewed with Golden Promise malt, Strata Hops, and industrial hemp.”

Explained David McClain, founder and CEO of Fatty’s Beer Works, “The innovative and progressive music of Doom Flamingo creates the perfect platform and synergies to create wild and wonderful beer everyone enjoys together.”

Doom Flamingo has also announced a handful of tour dates spanning across the first half of the year. The first three shows of the tour will serve as Umphrey’s McGee afterparties, with shows in Richmond in January, Brooklyn in February and Nashville in March. To celebrate the launch of Doom Flamingo’s new brew, the group will hit Charleston, South Carolina’s Pour House on April 27 for a beer release celebration. The group will round out their announced tour dates with a stop at Cervantes’ Other Side in Denver on June 20 — this last show will also double as a pre-party for Umphrey’s McGee’s annual Red Rocks run that spans June 21 to 23.
