Planet Drum’s Mickey Hart Preps ‘In The Groove’ Elements For Dead & Company Tour

94

Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart counts Dead & Company and Planet Drum among his current projects. The two worlds will meet this summer when Hart fits sequences from Planet Drum’s forthcoming studio album, In The Groove, within “Drums” and “Space” portions of upcoming Dead & Company concerts.

In The Groove finds Hart reuniting with fellow percussionists Zakir Hussain, Giovanni Hidalgo and Sikiru Adepoju for the first Planet Drum album since 2007’s Global Drum Project. The six-track LP arrives via Valley Entertainment on August 5. Planet Drum will celebrate with a two-night stand at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York on August 5 and 6.

Mickey Hart is joined in Dead & Company by drummer Bill Kreutzmann, guitarists Bob Weir and John Mayer, bassist Oteil Burbridge and keyboardist Jeff Chimenti. Dead & Company will kick off their month-long summer tour at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles on June 11. The trek includes two-night stands in the Bay Area, Boulder, Chicago and New York City in addition to many other stops.

Hart has created sequences, otherwise known as “Zones,” from In The Groove that will be performed as part of “Drums” and “Space” this summer. “These global rhythms from the masters are reinvented yet again, transcending space and time in the set,” as per a press release.
