Watch Phish Perform ‘Mull,’ ‘You Enjoy Myself’ & ‘A Wave Of Hope’ In Noblesville: Pro-Shot Videos

101

Phish rolled out pro-shot video featuring a highlight from each of the first two nights of their recently completed three-night stand at Ruoff Music Center in Noblesville, Indiana. The quartet unveiled “Mull” from Friday, June 3 at the venue originally known as Deer Creek and the “You Enjoy Myself” into “A Wave Of Hope” pairing from Saturday, June 4.

Friday marked Phish bassist Mike Gordon‘s 57th birthday. Gordon had his first turn of the night leading the band on “Mull” late in the opening stanza. “Mull” was debuted by Phish on August 3, 2021 in Nashville. Three additional versions followed leading up to the Noblesville play.

Gordon wrote “Mull” and shined on the ensuing jam. Phish broke through the song’s normal boundaries and engaged on a bliss-filled excursion containing impressive interplay between the band’s four members. At 12 minutes, the Noblesville “Mull” was the longest take yet.

Phish went with “You Enjoy Myself” and “A Wave Of Hope” to kick off their second set on Saturday. Contributor Ryan Storm recapped Saturday’s concert for JamBase. Read his description of the ethereal 42-minute sequence:

For just the fourth time ever and the first time since May 9, 1989, “You Enjoy Myself” served as the opening song of the second set. Breezing through the composed section with minimal flubbing and building to a patient and blazing peak, Phish unveiled the second-ever (see December 31, 2021) “second jam” within “YEM,” emerging out of a brief vocal jam back into the song’s signature groove. We would not be left with a simple reprise of the earlier jam, however, and the quartet quickly modulated into gorgeous major-key play before segueing cleanly into “A Wave of Hope.”

Opening up for the first time into full Type II territory, the Lonely Trip track’s jam was dominated by keyboardist Page McConnell and his massive array of sounds. Coasting on a bed of synthesizer thanks to the Moog One, Page built a foundation in combination with piano for Trey to lead the gorgeous jam over. Featuring multiple modulations and another smooth return to the song proper (in stark contrast to endings earlier in the tour like the May 31 “Set Your Soul Free”), “A Wave of Hope” firmly established that it can and WILL jam – earning its spot as a strong second-set tune.
