The latest Commercial Breakdown video from The Late Show With Stephen Colbert features Lake Street Dive frontwoman Rachael Price teaming up with The Late Show Band on “Baby I Love You.” Price and The Late Show Band’s Louis Cato share vocal duties in covering Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway’s version of a song originally recorded by Aretha Franklin.
A number of guests including St. Vincent, Joe Walsh and James Taylor sat-in with The Late Show Band, previously known as Stay Human, over the past few months while Jon Batiste was on vacation. Batiste confirmed his departure from Colbert earlier this month. Louis Cato was selected to replace Batiste in fronting the house band, which was rechristened The Late Show Band. Rachael Price joined the show’s house band for the episode that aired on July 20.

James Taylor & Late Show Band Perform ‘How Sweet It Is’ For ‘Colbert’
Each video in the Commercial Breakdown series documents a performance that took place off-air during a commercial break. Past installments have seen St. Vincent cover Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams,” James Taylor perform “Shower The People” and Joe Walsh lead “Funk 49.” All were played with The Late Show Band.
Penned by Ronnie Shannon, Aretha Franklin scored a smash hit in 1967 with “Baby I Love You.” Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway recorded the song for their eponymous 1972 album of duets. Watch Rachael Price and The Late Show Band’s version below:
