Dave Matthews Band Drops Rarities Into Gorge Night 1 Setlist

Dave Matthews Band’s annual Labor Day Weekend visit to The Gorge Amphitheatre kicked off on Friday night. The first of three shows at the scenic venue in Washington state produced a trio of bust outs, including the first DMB performance of “Eh Hee” since 2013.

The concert started with Led Zeppelin’s “Fool In The Rain” in the opening slot. It was the fourth time the recently debuted cover opened a show and its seventh DMB performance overall. Next came the band’s most played song, “Warehouse,” followed by the only other cover of the night, Daniel Lanois’ “The Maker.”

A few songs later saw frontman/guitarist Dave Matthews lead his bandmates through “The Riff” for the first time in over one year and just the fourth time since 2014. Newer songs, “Madman’s Eyes” and “Samurai Cop (Oh Joy Begin),” were stacked together ahead of the classic “Don’t Drink The Water.”

The first “Drunken Soldier” of the tour followed, as the lengthy original made its first setlist since 2019. Matthews trailed the bust out with “Seek Up,” before launching into the aforementioned “Eh Hee.” First played in 2007, DMB had not performed “Eh Hee” since July 3, 2013, spanning a gap of 396 shows between setlist appearances.

The rest of the set was filled in with “Why I Am” and its “Kill The Preacher” intro, “Lying In The Hands Of God,” “Crush” and “Grey Street.” Matthews selected “Virginia In The Rain” as he went solo to start the encore. Joined by his bandmates, Matthews then headed to another state, ending the first night of this year’s Gorge run with “Louisiana Bayou.”
