Bob Weir & Wolf Bros played the second of three shows celebrating the Grateful Dead guitarist’s 75th birthday at The Warfield in San Francisco, CA on Saturday. Having made their debut at the venue the night before, Weir, Jay Lane (drums), Don Was (bass), and Jeff Chimenti (keyboards) were once again joined by The Wolfpack as well as frequent Bob Weir collaborators Matthew Kelly (Ratdog, Bobby and the Midnites) on harmonica and Barry Sless on pedal steel.
Bobby kicked off his last show as a spry 74-year-old with the Dead classic “Friend of the Devil”. He then signaled the festivities to come with his own composition, “Bombs Away”, before slowing things down with Jerry Garcia‘s solemn ode to San Francisco’s nearby Mission District, “Mission in the Rain”. “Brown-Eyed Women” came next ahead of “Ashes and Glass”, from Weir’s days leading Ratdog. The band segued into Roy Hamilton‘s “Don’t Let Go”, a Jerry Garcia Band favorite, and then reprised “Ashes and Glass” before moving on to the epic “Weather Report Suite”. The Suite was naturally followed by “Let It Grow” to close the first set.

After set break, Bob and company kicked off set two with Kris Kristofferson‘s country ballad “Me and Bobby McGee”. Next came a free-flowing sequence of Dead staples beginning with “I Need a Miracle”, followed by “Truckin’”, “Smokestack Lightning”, and a “Truckin’” reprise. “Corrina” then led into Bob Dylan’s “All Along the Watchtower”, which gave way to a set-closing sequence of “Playing in the Band” > “Standing on the Moon” > “Playing in the Band” reprise > “One More Saturday Night”. For the encore, Bobby and the band played the imagery-rich “Ripple”.
