The Avett Brothers, Maren Morris and Black Opry Revue top the initial 2023 MerleFest lineup. The music festival celebrates its 35th anniversary and honors late founder Doc Watson’s 100th birthday year at Wilkes Community College in Wilkesboro, North Carolina from April 27 – 30, 2023.
Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas and Peter Rowan return to MerleFest next spring. Other acts set to appear at the 2023 installment include Andy May, Banknotes, Carol Rifkin, Charles Welch, Donna the Buffalo, Jack Lawrence, Jeff Little Trio, Jim Lauderdale, Joe Smothers, Kruger Brothers, Laura Boosinger, The Local Boys, Mark Bumgarner and many others. The next lineup announcement is due out on December 5.
Organizers aim to honor the festival’s history by presenting unique collaborations. MerleFest was founded by Doc Watson in 1988 as a tribute to his late son, Eddy Merle Watson.
