The String Cheese Incident at Hulaween – Night One, Night Two, Night Three
The String Cheese Incident celebrated Halloween by headlining Hulaween at Spirit of The Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak, Florida. The band performed three times and brought out special guests each time they took the stage. SCI’s Saturday Shebang featured a third set made up entirely of covers and several guests joining the band throughout the celebratory performance.
Phil Lesh & Friends at Christmas Jam
Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh took part in Warren Haynes’ Christmas Jam benefit concert at Harrah’s Cherokee Center in Asheville, North Carolina. The Phil Lesh & Friends lineup consisted of Lesh, Haynes, guitarist John Scofield, drummer John Molo and keyboardist Rob Barraco. Along with playing Dead classics, Phil & Friends covered The Beatles, Miles Davis and more.
moe. at North Beach – Set One, Set Two
moe. headlined the first night of the North Beach Music Festival in Miami. The band was joined by keyboardist Nate Wilson and guitarist Suke Cerulo at NBMF as they were throughout 2022 while moe. guitarist Chuck Garvey recovers from a stroke. Skerik emerged during moe.’s first set to add sax to an exploratory cover of Traffic’s “Low Spark Of High-Heeled Boys.” Lotus guitarist Tim Palmieri came out at the end of moe.’s second set when he joined the band for a fiery version of “The Pit.”
Marcus King at The Ryman
Singer-songwriter Marcus King held back-to-back concerts at The Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. The shows at “The Mother Church” were shot in 4k for a nine-camera cinematic experience. King’s performances came in support of his 2022, Dan Auerbach-produced album, Young Blood.
Pigeons Playing Ping Pong at Flocktoberfest
Pigeons Playing Ping Pong staged their annual Flocktoberfest hometown concert at Baltimore Soundstage. Guitarist Jeremy Schon’s father, Dr. Lew Schon, once again accompanied his son’s band, helping out on a Talking Heads cover. The show also featured the live debut of a new PPPP original song, “Alright Tonight.”
Tyler Childers at Christmas Jam
Tyler Childers was also a participant in Warren Haynes’ Christmas Jam benefit concert at Harrah’s Cherokee Center in Asheville, North Carolina. Tylers and his band The Food Stamps played songs from his ambitious 2022 album Can I Take My Hounds to Heaven? along with other originals and covers of songs by Charley Crockett, Charlie Daniels and Kenny Rogers.
Galactic in Colorado
New Orleans-based Galactic brought their signature brand of funk to Colorado for a gig at Nottingham Park in the mountain town of Avon as part of the 36th Annual Salute to the USA. The set featured vocalist Anjelika “Jelly” Joseph and a special sit-in by guitarist Cory Wong.
Lettuce at North Beach
Funk masters Lettuce headlined the third and final day of this year’s North Beach Music Festival with a guest filled-set on Sunday in Miami. The band welcomed saxophone players Karl Denson and Skerik, plus drummer Nikki Glaspie over the course of their fest-ending performance.
Gov’t Mule at Christmas Jam
Warren Haynes’ aforementioned Christmas Jam all-star benefit returned to Asheville’s Harrah’s Cherokee Center after a three-year hiatus. Haynes and his band Gov’t Mule played a typically guest-filled set with George Porter Jr., Katie Jacoby, Scott Metzger, Rob Barraco and Audley Freed among those who joined Mule.
Lotus at North Beach
Lotus headlined the final night of the North Beach Music Festival. The band delivered a career-spanning two-hour set on the Park Stage. The performance included “Time Dilates” which was one of the songs that appeared on the group’s 2022 studio album, Bloom & Recede.
