[UPDATE 4/28/23]: Park City Song Summit has added legendary Hall of Fame songwriter J.D. Souther to its 2023 lineup.
Souther recently made headlines joining Bob Weir & Wolf Bros, who are among the festival’s headline acts, for a series of live songwriting experiments where he, Bob, and the band put together new compositions on the fly while on stage at The Guild Theater in Menlo Park, CA. 4/26/23: Park City Song Summit will return to Park City, UT September 7th–9th, 2023 for another celebration of the songwriting craft. Performers for the second annual PCSS include Bob Weir & Wolf Bros, Chuck D, Eric Krasno & Friends, Joy Oladokun, Ramblin’ Jack Elliott, and many more.
The lineup for Park City Song Summit ranges from singer-songwriters Anders Osborne, Adia Victoria, and Steve Poltz to rising R&B maven Celisse to hip-hop originator Grandmaster Flash all the way to hit country songwriters Jeffrey Steele and Earl Bud Lee, soulful St. Paul & The Broken Bones frontman Paul Janeway, Cuban genre blender Cimfunk, and many more.
“Park City Song Summit is unlike any music festival experience I’ve ever had,” returning performer Celisse said. “What is particularly great is that it is an event which is really focused on getting to know the artist, their music, and their creative process.”
In addition to taking in an extensive lineup of live performances, during the day PCSS attendees can sit in on artist-led discussions dubbed Summit Labs. These panels will bring fans closer to the artists than a front-row seat at any concert, as they discuss the inner machinations of their songwriting craft. Summit Labs for 2023 include Chuck D, Grandmaster Flash, and Darryl “DMC” McDaniels discussing the 50th anniversary of hip-hop, a tribute to Stevie Wonder, “a new Nashville Unplugged songwriters stage, the tangled roots of Latinx and Black music, Women and the blues, the ‘Havana Funk Experience’ ft. jazz/funk music students from New Orleans and Havana, Cuba,” and more.
New in 2023, Park City Song Summit will change locations to The Canyons Village. Labs and performances will take place in and around the resort community—which touts itself as the closest base to the Salt Lake City Airport—while late-night programming will return to the same venues from last year along Park City’s Main Street historic district.
“The Canyons Village reflects the intention of our programming and provides ample physical room for our minds and hearts to roam in a variety of settings,” festival founder Ben Anderson said. “The addition of the amphitheater stage allows us to offer the Park City Song Summit experience to a bigger audience.”
A pre-sale for three- and single-day passes, add-ons, and individual show tickets for Park City Song Summit 2023 begins on Thursday, May 4th with tickets going on sale to the general public on Thursday, May 11th.
