Lucinda Williams shared a new single, “Where The Song Will Find Me.” The track is set for the acclaimed singer-songwriter’s upcoming album, Stories From A Rock n Roll Heart, due out on June 30 through Highway 20 Records/Thirty Tigers.
Williams previously released Stories From A Rock n Roll Heart single, “New York Comeback,” featuring Bruce Springsteen and Patti Scialfa. “Comeback” is certainly a germane term for Williams as 2020 saw her Nashville home damaged by a tornado just weeks before the COVID-19 pandemic took hold. In November 2020, the then 67-year-old Williams suffered a stroke that partially impaired the left side of her body, preventing her from playing guitar.
“Since I couldn’t teach the band the songs on guitar, I would sing it to give an idea of the feel and the vibe,” Lucinda said of the trying period. “We’d do it a few times until we got the right groove. It was really challenging because I wasn’t playing guitar. But sometimes when things are challenging like that, good stuff can come out of it.”
What came out of it was her 15th studio album. Williams’ husband Tom Overby co-produced Stories From A Rock ‘n’ Roll Heart with engineer Ray Kennedy. Along with Bruce and Patti, Williams welcomed a number of guests on the record including Margo Price, Jeremy Ivey, Angel Olsen, Buddy Miller, Siobhan Maher Kennedy, Sophie Gault and the Replacements’ Tommy Stinson.
The latest single, “Where The Song Will Find Me,” see Williams continuing her inspirational comeback.
“A true highlight of Stories from a Rock n Roll Heart is the epic ‘Where the Song Will Find Me,’ a hauntingly beautiful piece, orchestrated and arranged by Lawrence Rothman,” press materials for the LP noted. “Throughout the song, Williams expresses that despite everything she has been through, she will never stop seeking, and we are all the better for it.”
