Get On The Train: God Street Wine Announces 1st Concerts Since 2019

61

God Street Wine will return to the stage for the first time in four years this fall for benefits concerts in New York City and Woodstock, New York to raise funds for MS4MS (Mission Stadiums for Multiple Sclerosis). All has been quiet from the jam quintet since the band released a studio album and embarked on summer tour in 2019.

The group — guitarists Lo Faber and Aaron Maxwell, bassist Dan Pifer, drummer Tom “Tomo” Osander and keyboardist Jon Bevo — will reunite to play NYC’s Cutting Room on September 30 and the iconic Levon Helm Studios in Woodstock on October 1. Tickets go on sale for The Cutting Room via TicketWeb and for Levon Helm Studios through the venue’s website this Friday, June 23.

God Street Wine formed in 1988 and rose through the ranks of New York City area venues over the next few years. The five-piece put out their major label debut album, $1.99 Romances, in 1994 and began touring nationwide. GSW took part in various installments of the H.O.R.D.E. Tour and hit the road supporting The Allman Brothers Band, The Black Crowes and Bruce Hornsby. After putting out five albums, playing over 1,000 shows and going through a few lineup changes, God Street Wine broke up in 1999 following a three-night stand at the Wetlands Preserve in NYC which were documented on the Good To The Last Drop live album.

In 2009, God Street Wine assembled to pay tribute to an old friend who passed away and went on to reunite for four concerts in New York City the following year benefitting the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. From 2011 through 2019 GSW would regroup for infrequent but memorable performances including aboard Jam Cruise, at Bob Weir’s TRI Studios, at Phil Lesh’s Terrapin Crossroads and the aforementioned 2019 tour.

Ever since the band’s early days they have been helped by Michael Weiss, a crew member, poker buddy and friend. Weiss — a patient ambassador and advisory board member for MS4MS — was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2004. GSW’s Fall 2023 shows will help the registered 501(c)(3) sports and entertainment focused non-profit organization with its mission to raise awareness of MS at events and venues, while raising funds directly for families impacted by MS and for the advancement of research at the John’s Hopkins MS Research Center in hopes of finding a cure.
