Alpharetta Jams: Watch Phish’s 29-Minute ‘Tweezer’ & Longest ‘My Friend, My Friend’ To Date

Phish shared pro-shot video of historic rendtions of “Tweezer” and “My Friend, My Friend.” The footage is from Saturday and Friday respectively of the quartet’s three-night run at Ameris Bank Amphitheatre in Alpharetta, Georgia this past weekend.

Phish’s trustiest jam-vehicle “Tweezer” needs no introduction. But where did the 29:13-minute Alpharetta 2023 “Tweezer” rank in terms of length? The longest is the Mud Island “Tweezer” from Memphis which took place on June 14, 1995 and clocked in at 49:49. The second longest came just a weeks later. The Finger Lakes “Tweezer,” or “FLeezer,” from Canandaigua, New York came in at 45 minutes even. The third longest “Tweezer” happened earlier this year on April 17 at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley, California and stretched to 43:39.

The famed “Tahoe Tweezer” from July 31 2013 is fourth on the list at 36:16 followed closely by the masterful 12-30-19 (34:58) edition at Madison Square Garden and a 34-minute rendering at Shoreline on September 1, 2021 (a show that was supposed to take in Tahoe but was moved to the Bay Area due to fires.) Alpharetta is no stranger to massive “Tweezers” as a brilliant 33:53 came into the world there on August 1, 2021. The November 2, 1994 Bangor “Tweezer” clocked in at 31 minutes while the band played a 30:45 rendition in Tokyo on June 9, 2000.

That makes the Alpharetta “Tweezer” the 10th longest to date in Phish history (also of note, 26 minute “Tweezers” took place in Atlanta in 2015 and 2000.) Watch Phish’s 29-minute “Tweezer” from Alpharetta on July 15, 2023 below:

The “My Friend, My Friend,” however, was perhaps more historic in that it was the longest version in Phish history to date at 14:28, taking the crown from the 11:39-minute “Jam-Filled” version during the Baker’s Dozen on July 25, 2017 at Madison Square. Not historically a jam vehicle, Phish stretched the Rift cut to nearly 15 minutes in Alpharetta on July 14, 2023.
