The Disco Biscuits have canceled their scheduled Thursday night performance at the State Theatre in Portland, Maine following a pair of deadly mass shootings in Lewiston on Wednesday that left 18 people dead and 13 more injured.
The suspected shooter, 40-year-old Bowdoin resident and Army reservist Robert Card, had previously been taken into police custody in July when commanders in his Army Reserve infantry regiment “became concerned about [his] behavior while the unit was training at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in New York,” per The Associated Press. As of publication time, the shooter remains at large.
The Disco Biscuits announced the Portland, Maine concert cancellation in a note posted to social media. “Sitting here on our bus, sad and in disbelief,” the note reads, “We found out about the events in Maine right after the show in Hartford last night, and our hearts absolutely sank for the entire community. Out of respect for those who lost their lives, their families and friends, and everyone in the Maine community who are no doubt reeling from these events, we will be canceling tonight’s show at the State Theatre.”
“We’re already looking at options to return to Portland in the near future,” the note continues, “but for now, we will continue on to Port Chester for our shows this weekend. Refunds for tonight’s canceled show can be obtained at your point of purchase, or you may hold onto your tickets which will be valid at the rescheduled date to be announced. We love you Maine, you are in our hearts and we hope to be back soon. Stay safe everyone 
.”
The Disco Biscuits’ brief fall comes to a close on Friday and Saturday, October 27th and 28th with a two-night run at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY. Other highlights of the band’s upcoming schedule include a two-night headlining stint at North Beach Music Festival in Miami Beach, FL on December 1st and 2nd.
