Watch Allison Russell Bring ‘The Returner’ To ‘Kimmel’

Singer-songwriter Allison Russell presented a captivating performance of the title track off her new album, The Returner, on Thursday’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live. Wendy & Lisa – former members of Prince’s band The Revolution, guitarist Wendy Melvoin and keyboardist Lisa Coleman – were part of Russell’s supporting cast of musicians.

Rounding out Russell’s backing band was guitarist Joy Clark, drummer Megan Coleman, bassist Ganessa James, keyboardist Elenna Canlas and a strings section made up of Larissa Maestro on cello and Kerenza Peacock on violin.

Russell released The Returner in September through Fantasy Records. The album followed Russell’s critically acclaimed 2021 debut album, Outside Child, which garnered Russell three Grammy Award nominations. Russell was bestowed the Spirit of Americana / Free Speech in Music Award earlier this year at the 2023 Americana Honors & Awards ceremony, where she was nominated multiple times, including for Artist Of The Year.
