David Gilmour, the longtime Pink Floyd guitarist, is reportedly back in the studio working on his first new album since 2015’s Rattle That Lock.
Photos shared by his wife, writer Polly Samson, show that the Pink Floyd guitarist has been recording at British Grove Studios with producer Charlie Andrew (alt-J) and a number of others. Among that group are longtime Gilmour collaborators bassist Guy Pratt and pianist Roger Eno, as well as drummers Steve Gadd and Adam Betts (Three Trapped Tigers, Jarvis Cocker), keyboardist Rob Gentry, and bassist Tom Herbert (Moats & Thrones, The Invisible, Polar Bear).
Samson also confirmed the project in an interview with the Romanian publication Zile si Nopti about her new novel, A Theatre for Dreamers. David Gilmour himself also previously said in March, “Life is to be continued, music is to be continued, I have every intention of making another album. My intention is for it not to take nine years this time, but there’s no promises.”
The new album will mark Gilmour’s first new solo output since the stand-alone 2020 single “Yes, I Have Ghosts”. He also contributed to Pink Floyd’s charity single “Hey Hey Rise Up”, released in 2022 in support of Ukraine. He has not returned to the road since concluding his tour in support of Rattle That Lock in 2016.
