[UPDATE 7/2/24]: After announcing that he would return to the stage this week, Willie Nelson has canceled another performance on his Outlaw Music Festival tour. The country music icon was expected to headline the show tonight, July 2nd, at the Xfinity Center in Mansfield, MA. A post on his social media accounts indicates the Red Headed Stranger still intends to helm his annual 4th of July Picnic, coming to Camden, NJ on Thursday.

“Willie Nelson is looking forward to seeing everyone in Camden on July 4. He will not be performing in Mansfield today,” the post read with no further explanation.

Nelson missed the first week of shows of his traveling Outlaw Fest tour and on Friday announced that doctors had cleared him to return to the stage this week. As was the case with previous cancelations, Bob DylanRobert Plant and Alison Krauss, and Celisee will perform as scheduled tonight in Mansfield. Willie’s son Lukas Nelson will lead the Nelson Family and special guests for a headlining set of Willie classics and other songs.

[6/29/24]: Willie Nelson‘s traveling Outlaw Music Festival tour has been going on for the past week despite the notable absence of Willie Nelson. Just ahead of the tour kickoff in Alpharetta, GA on June 21st, the 91-year-old country music icon announced he wasn’t feeling well and has since been off the road by doctors’ orders. On Friday though, Nelson announced he will get “On The Road Again” next week, following a couple more missed shows.

“Willie Nelson has been cleared by his doctors to go back on the road again,” read a post on Willie’s social media channels. “He will resume performing on the Outlaw Tour next week. Willie will not be on this weekend’s dates.”

Nelson has missed five shows so far and will sit out two more this weekend at Northwell Health at Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh, NY tonight, June 29th, and PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, NJ on Sunday. As with Willie’s previous cancelations, his son Lukas Nelson will lead the Nelson Family in a headlining set featuring special guests and songs from throughout Willie’s vast catalog and beyond. Bob Dylan, Robert Plant and Alison Krauss, and Celisse have all performed as scheduled. Nelson is expected to rejoin the touring party on July 2nd in Mansfield, MA ahead of his 4th of July Picnic in Camden, NJ—featuring many of the same acts from the Outlaw Fest lineup plus Maren Morris and Mavis Staples. Find a full list of upcoming Willie Nelson tour dates on his website.

Meanwhile, Willie’s son Micah Nelson just got knocked off his tour supporting Neil Young & Crazy Horse after the group canceled its remaining tour dates due to a lingering illness affecting the band. Young and his longtime on-again, off-again backing band—featuring Micah in for Nils Lofgren who is touring with The E Street Band—played a little over a dozen shows of their first tour together in a decade before postponing a series of Midwest concerts in late May. The band was due to resume touring in July and headline Bourbon & Beyond and Ohana Fest, but abruptly canceled all remaining tour dates this past week.

“The Love Earth Tour has been a great experience for us so far,” Young wrote in his cancelation. “GREAT AUDIENCES AND MUSIC. WE HAVE HAD A BLAST! When a couple of us got sick after Detroit’s Pine Knob, we had to stop. We are still not fully recovered, so sadly our great tour will have a big unplanned break. We will try to play some of the dates we miss as time passes when we are ready to rock again!”
