Organisers of yearly Wollongong music festival Yours & Owls have twofold news regarding its future. The bad news: In the latest blow to the 2024 festival circuit, it will not be going ahead this year. The good news, however, is that it has not been cancelled outright. Furthermore, the organisers have pulled together a mini-festival of sorts to go ahead in the usual October timeslot – dubbing it a “pre-party” to the 2025 festival. “Due to headliner availabilities, the main event is moving into early 2025 (details will be announced real soon),” the festival announced in a press statement. “[However,] we will stop at nothing to ensure the Logistics Grinch doesn’t steal Gong Christmas – also, as you guys know, we love any excuse to throw a party. So, [you are] welcome [to] our 10th Birthday Pre-Party on October 12th.”
Headlining the make-good festivities are Golden Features and Peking Duk – both of which have headlined the festival in previous iterations. The booking of the latter is a surprisingly scarce rarity for 2024, with the duo’s two members pursuing their own solo projects: Y.O.G.A. for Reuben Styles and Keli Holiday for Adam Hyde, respectively.
Golden Features – ‘Vigil’
This is not the first postponement or cancellation the festival has faced in its now decade-long history. It was, of course, cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic; it then returned as one of the only music festivals to successfully run in 2021, albeit in a stripped-back and heavily-enforced manner. The 2022 festival, meanwhile, was cancelled due to flooding in the region.
The festival successfully ran in October 2023, returning to its original home on the grounds of the University of Wollongong. The festival was headlined by the aforementioned Golden Features as well as Hilltop Hoods, Flight Facilities, SAFIA, Pendulum, Descendents and Oliver Tree.
