Mike Dillon And The Mallet Men Share ‘Tiki Birdwhistle’ Single

Mike Dillon And The Mallet Men shared a new song entitled “Tiki Birdwhistle.” The single was recorded and produced by Eddie Roberts at Color Red Studios in Denver.

Last year saw the release of the Mike Dillon And The Mallet Men’s studio album Bonobo Bonobo. Dillon and his band mates were recently in Denver for a show with The Greyboy Allstars, which led to the recording of “Tiki Birdwhistle.” Here’s more on the session:

The creation of “Tiki Birdwhistle” by Mike Dillon and the Mallet Men is almost as happenstance as the name itself would imply. The self-described “New Orleans Exotica” track is slathered with influences. It has the playful, virtuosic mallet rolls of Martin Denny; the bouncy melodies and cawing of Cat Tjador; the escapism of Arthur Lyman and the soul of the Montgomery Brothers. While in town playing a show with The Greyboy Allstars, Eddie called upon Dillon and company to check out the Color Red studio. Doing a session was a no-brainer and the group knocked it out of the park with layers of infectious mallet work that could simultaneously rile up a crowd on a sweaty dance floor and have jaws drop on the floor at a concert hall.
