moe. and Daniel Donato brought their Best.Summer.Ever tour to the Big Apple on Thursday for a summertime shindig at The Rooftop at Pier 17.
An opening set from Daniel Donato’s Cosmic Country kicked off the festivities with a mix of classic country covers like Merle Haggard’s “Workin’ man Blues” and Buck Owens’ “Truck Drivin’ Man” as well as cosmic originals including “Dance in the Desert” and “Sugar Leg Rag”. moe. then opened its headlining set with the geographically suitable “New York City”.
It was towards the end of moe.’s set—between covers Blind Melon‘s “No Rain” and Blind Faith‘s “Can’t Find My Way Home”—that the highlight of the evening arrived as Donato returned to the stage to join in on “Mexico”. The Cosmic Country bandleader previously sat in on the same tune during moe.’s Pearl Jam-themed “Jammie Jam” on Jam Cruise 20. The band then topped the night off jamming on a few originals including “Spine of a Dog”, “Rebubula”, and a “Gone” encore.
