Perpetual Groove Announces New Album & Tour Dates And Shares Single

166

Perpetual Groove will issue a self-titled studio album on May 17 via Harmonized Records. The quartet shared the LP’s first single, “Upswing” and announced a big batch of tour dates.

Not only is Perpetual Groove the veteran jam act’s first full-length release since Heal in 2009, it also marks the first LP featuring the classic lineup of guitarist Brock Butler, keyboardist Matt McDonald, bassist Adam Perry and drummer Albert Suttle since 2007’s LIVELOVEDIE. PGroove has survived lineup changes and a two-year hiatus over the past decade and returns with a collection of seven songs produced by Jason Kingsland and Tim Friesen.

Butler, McDonald, Perry and Suttle recorded the album in 2018 at studios in North Carolina and Georgia. The quartet created the music in the studio instead of their typical m.o. of testing the material on the road. Brock and Adam were tasked with writing the lyrics for the LP. “The inimitable lyrical style of Brock Butler and Adam Perry focus on loss, redemption, hope and is balanced with a sonic cerebral and emotional undertow,” reads materials announcing the album. Perpetual Groove is the band’s first vinyl release and will also be available on CD and via digital services.

The band shared the following with Relix about the “Upswing” video:

“Sometimes a video can bring a new emotional context to a song. This is especially true when you’ve only thought about the audio experience and the emotional space that fills for well over a year while in the studio with the song. This was also our first stab at a video of any sort. So, we landed on the idea of making a lyric video at Adam’s house using his projector. There are some obvious videos that we pay homage to and it was a really great experience for the three of us to get out of our normal creative space with each other to make the ‘Upswing’ video.”

PGroove follows an April tour with summer gigs in Wilmington, North Carolina on July 12 and Richmond, Virginia on August 24. The band then begins a busy fall with two shows in Savannah, the city that birthed the band, on September 20 and 21. Next comes an appearance at The NorVa in Norfolk on September 27 and a trip to North Carolina that includes stops in Charlotte on October 4 and Raleigh on October 5. The quartet continues the tour with a Northeast swing that features visits to Philadelphia, Washington D.C., New York City, Boston, Burlington. Gigs in Nashville and Huntsville come before a Halloween show at their home venue of the Georgia Theatre and two nights at The Charleston Pour House on November 1 and 2. A trip to Colorado sees the band play Frisco and Denver and the tour is currently slated to end with performances in Birmingham on November 22 and Atlanta on November 23.
