July 19 2024 Review and Photography by Joel Shover @JoelShoverPhotography

Duane Betts and his signature gold Gibson Les Paul guitar made a stop at the very intimate Greenwich Odeum in East Greenwich, Rhode Island on Friday July 19th, 2024. Betts is showing that the road truly goes on forever with his longtime friend and bandmate of the Palmetto Hotel, Johnny Stachela, as they have trekked back and forth and around again in the good ole USA.

As the small intimate theater filled up with loyal fans from near and afar, I had the pleasure of meeting Rachel and her assistant Amanda that were eager to greet every attendee with a hello and a friendly smile and a thank you. Rachel and Amanda are the only full-time employees of the non-profit venue that solely relies on donations and community support to keep this dream and deep history of arts and entertainment in the beautiful, picturesque town of East Greenwich, Rhode Island.

The fans were ready and were treated to a special opening act from Sean Walsh from The National Reserve alongside singer-songwriter Samoa Wilson. Duane and the boys hit the stage and came out firing on all cylinders with “Saints to Sinners” from his album Wild and Precious Life. “Stare at The Sun”, a song written by Derek Trucks and Duane Betts, was the second song of the night. The third song of the evening happens to be one of my favorite songs from Duane’s first EP, Sketches of American Music, “Taking Time”.

A salute to the honky-tonk heroes of music brought out the “Hoochie Coochie Man”, then the time came for some good ole Allman Brothers as the boys led into “Blue Sky” and “Shinin’”. It was off to the the “Rivers Run” for the Allman Betts classic. Betts then took us back to Wild and Precious Life album with “Colors Fade” and “Cold Dark World” The evening concluded with the famed Allman Brothers “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed” and Betts own “Waiting on a song”.

Fridays show was not the last chance you’ll have to see Duane Betts play those soothing southern sounds. Betts and the band will be back in Providence with The Tedeschi Trucks Band on October 3rd, 2024. If that’s not good enough, roll on down highway 95 if you’re willin’, and see Duane and the band perform with Little Feat with the final stop in Macon, GA on November 1st 2024. You can also check out Duane Betts with The Allman Betts Family Reunion coming to a town near you soon!

If you’re looking to support live music and meet some wonderful folks check out the Greenwich Odem in East Greenwich, Rhode Island, they have Roseanne Cash coming up on August 10th, 2024, and The Sons of Cream on August 18th, 2024.
