Spafford bassist/vocalist Jordan Fairless announced on Friday that he will not join the band for part of its fall tour. In a brief statement to social media, Fairless stated that the absence stems from the car accident the band suffered while on tour earlier this year.
“Since the accident in March, I’ve been working to come to terms with a lot of things,” Fairless wrote. “At this time, I feel that it’s best that I take some time off from the road. I’ll be sitting out the beginning of Fall Tour with Spafford. I appreciate your understanding, and thank you, everyone for all your support.”
In a separate post, Spafford noted that “Life has presented some challenges recently” for the bassist but did not go into greater detail. Shon Gordon (Elephantproof, Skunk Jesus) will fill in for Fairless on the tour set to begin on October 29th in Reno and travel the Western United States into mid-November.
This news comes after guitarist Brian Moss just came off the bench after taking some time to heal mentally and physically from the accident that forced the band to cancel two shows in Ohio and Kentucky. While Moss was away, Mike Gantzer—whose band Aqueous went on indefinite hiatus at the end of 2023—took his place.

Spafford has plenty on the calendar ahead of the fall tour, including a run of Northeast shows this month followed by appearances at Adirondack Independence Music Festival and Summerdance. Find tickets and a full list of tour dates on the band’s website and see both statements below.
