Following two stellar nights at Berkeley’s Greek Theatre on Saturday and Sunday, Billy Strings on Monday night surprised an unsuspecting crowd at the intimate, 280-capacity Largo nightclub in Los Angeles during a star-studded benefit for the YMCA hosted by comedian Mike Birbiglia.
Strings helped close out the show and was the only musical act on the bill, which featured four other secret special guests including comedians Nick Kroll, Judd Apatow, Atsuko Okatsuka, and Larry Wilmore.
After Birbiglia opened the show with a 20-minute stand-up set, he passed the mic to each of the comedic guests for 10-minute sets of their own. The host then returned to the stage for another tight tight before introducing Strings.
Billy played a 20-minute solo set to close out the night and even got the audience laughing with a cover of Blaze Foley‘s “I Wanna Go Home With An Armadillo”.
