After kicking off a run with Eggy and Stolen Gin in St. Louis on Thursday, Umphrey’s McGee continued on to Chicago for a Friday night throwdown at The Salt Shed.
Following an opening set from Stolen Gin, Eggy took the opportunity to debut a new cover, “I Am Trying To Break Your Heart” by Wilco. Umphrey’s then delivered one jam-packed set rather than the usual two. Highlights included the band’s first cover of The Police‘s “Message in a Bottle” since Halloween 2019 and the encore, which began with a culinary theme—”In The Kitchen” > “Soul Food I” > “Soul Food II”—and finished with “Come As Your Kids”, a clever arrangement blending Nirvana‘s “Come as You Are” with MGMT‘s “Kids”.
