Adam Spencer and Wil Anderson – who hosted triple j breakfast as Adam & Wil from 1999 to 2004 – have announced a tour in which they will reunite on-stage to commemorate both 25 years since their first shows and 20 years since their last. Dubbed The First Time (In A Long Time), the pair will share stories from across their five-year run at the station. The full list of tour dates, as well as ticketing information, can be found below.

“Working with Adam on triple j in the early 2000s are some of my fondest memories – and that is just the stuff I can remember,” said Anderson in a` press statement. “I can’t wait to be back onstage with Adam talking about the old days, and hopefully he can fill in some gaps for me.” Spencer, for his part, joked that he doesn’t “look a day older than I did in 2004… because I was absolutely trashing my body back then and already looked 50”. “Join us as we relive the memories,” he said. “In fact, feel free to prompt our memories, and we will take it from there.”

Adam & Wil – ‘I’m Sorry Matt Hayden’

The unlikely pairing of mathematician and debate champion Spencer with stand-up comedian Anderson began in April of 1999, following Spencer hosting the breakfast show by himself from 1998 onwards. The pair quickly became the most popular presenters on the station at the time, with segments including Song In An Hour – where they would give comedy trio Tripod one hour to write a song with specific topics mentioned – and enlisting musicians to sing the day’s weather report.

The show was also known for its frequent callers, including 70-year-old “Mary from Junee” and a male caller known only as “The Stink”. Adam & Wil‘s popularity peaked in 2002, where a running gag from the program – a fictional metal band named Salmon Hater – was turned into a real single, ‘6.66 (1/100th Of The Number Of The Beast)’. The song was voted into that year’s Hottest 100 at number 26 – outperforming the John Butler Trio, Pearl Jam and Motor Ace, among others.
